Right. So 2008 was pretty quiet year for me. I did a US tour and played a couple of shows in Paris and released an album (Activism). One of the reasons it was so slow was that a great part of the year I spent working on other musical projects (Gavin Portland, DMSS....etc).

But that doesn..t mean I haven..t been writing new songs. I have a lot of songs written and now I..m working on recording them. Hopefully I..ll have a new album out this summer..

I..m coming over to the UK to play a few shows soon. Should be fun. I..ll post all the details as soon as I get them.

But I..m still very interested in doing some releases along the album using all the extra songs I..ll have so if anyone is interested in releasing a 7", ep, split, anything really, get in touch.

I..ll post my favorite albums of the year list soon.

Some news:

We´ve got a compilation cd coming up with various recordings from MSSS. Ambient, noise, drone, guitar improvisations. You know the score. We´re working on artwork and selecting songs and it will be out in December.

My Summer as a Salvation Soldier upcoming EP has been recorded and we´re working on the artwork. In addition to that there will be a couple of shows in Paris the first weekend of December.

Finally there are some news. I´ve recorded 4 songs for an EP that will be released by my friend Jeremy from France on his new Camaraderie label. I´ve also finished recording a song for the split 7" I´m doing with Tentacles of Doom. Some of that music will probably find it´s way on here at some point.

And more excitingly, Carpet Show has finished recording his first album which will hopefully be released in the next few months.

And here´s an interview with my favorite comedian Patton Oswalt on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

Here´s a little family portrait. Been sick and bedridden for almost two weeks. Been working on a lot of new demos. One of whom has been posted on the myspace.

The last post had a video of an Animal Collective show who are definitely one of the family favorites. So I thought I might put a video of another family favorite in this post. Not a live clip this time but a video of possibly one of my 5 favorite songs of all time. And from a definite top 10 album.

On music related note. I´ve been listening to the new Grouper. It is possibly my favorite album of the year so far. And there have been some grate albums released in the last 6 months or so.

I´m planning on uploading some more new demos as soon as I have more vocals recorded. I´m excited about the new songs. They will be quite different.

Here´s an incredible live set by Animal Collective. Taped in 2006 in Poland. One my all time favorite bands and definitely one of the more important ones for me personally. Check it out if you´re bored.

I put a new song on my myspace. It´s just a pretty rough demo. But I´m pleased with the song.

Just got home from Denmark. It was a nice trip. The first few days I spent walking around Copenhagen in the sun listening to Panda Bear. That made me feel like I was in Spain. It was great.

Then Júlía came over and we went to Viborg to visit my family. Our first day the weather was awesome and we spent the day in a park playing football with my brother and sister and listening to Black Lips and Jay Reatard.

The rest of the week it was gray and wet so we mostly stayed indoors. And we listened to a lot of Private.

Now we´re home. Tomorrow´s independence day.

We´re going to Denmark. In a few days. Last visit before the family moves back to Iceland. I´ll be playing a couple of shows as a fill in bass player for my friends Dormah.

We´ve got a couple of "real" releases lined up. A new My Summer as a Salvation Soldier vinyl EP. And hopefully Carpet Show will finish his album at some point. We´re excited about that. As of now we have no idea when the Carpet Show album will be ready but the MSAASS EP should be out late summer/early fall.

I´ve been listening to Jay Reatard almost non stop lately. I highly recommend him/them.

I´ll put up some new songs soon. I hope.

It´s gray and raining. Like usually. I´ve been looking for a job and Júlía has been learning how to drive. I´ve written a bunch of songs lately and I´m sure you´ll get to hear most of them soon. I´ve got a few releases lined up for the latter half of 2008. Some pretty neat ones. Our cat seems to be getting into fewer fights. But instead it just keeps bringing in leaves and twigs. Giving our little apartment an organic feel. I´m listening to Yacht. I should go outside. I´ve been at home a lot lately. Not really been among people. I prefer that really but periods like these just make me more and more reclusive and that really starts to affect my mental state in odd ways. The working title for my new album is "The devils, death and the holy spirit". Very humble.. I know.

Tuesday the 18th.

The show was in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We played with Ghost Mice again. We had to wait outside the venue for 2 hours, but it was alright because they had a really nice record store right next to it where we wasted our time and our money.
We stayed at some peoples place that we met at the gig. One of the guys worked at the record store. They had a lot of National Geography that we had a good time reading.

Wednesday the 19th.

(House show)

We played two shows that day, one house show and then one show during the evening. The house show was really cool. We were late because we took a wrong turn, so we missed the food, but everybody was really nice. The show was in the garage and there were a bunch of kids there. Many of them came to she show during the evening as well.
The house show was in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The show during the evening was at a collective in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There was a really cool vegetarian show across the street and the had a Deli as well where we had some vegan Mac and Cheese and stuff.
The collective was pretty awesome, there was a library, a screen printing studio, the had classes there and what not.
That was our last concert with Ghost Mice for now, but hopefully they'll come to Iceland during there Europe tour.

Thursday the 20th.

We began our day looking for a dentist for Þórir because his tooth had been killing him for a long time and he hadn't slept for 3 days. We had to go to 3 different dentist before Þórir could get and appointment, but we finally managed to squeeze him in. He got some pain killers and some anti-biotics so he's doing better now.
Because of this whole stuff we were a little late when we arrived in Bloomington, Indiana. It was a really long drive, but we made it!
The show was at a store called Sweet Hickory that Ryan from Defiance, Ohio is on of the organizers for. The shop was really cool. It was an art gallery and a record store.
At the show we met up with Michael ( Drekka) who we stayed with the next 2 nights.

Friday the 21st.

We had the day off so we hung out with Michael in Bloomington.
Michael house was really really nice. He had a huge creepy basement where he had a drum set and stuff, and we also watched some DVD's there on night.
Our day in Bloomington was really nice. We ate some good food, bought some records and stuff. Arnar got a tattoo at a local tattoo shop, and it was really cheap. He got the drawing that was at Þórir's first CD cover.

We also visited the Vollmar guys at the studio where they were recording. It was kind of in the middle of nowhere and was in a little house where they slept and ate and everything. Þórir is seriously thinking about coming there to record his next album if he cans.
Bloomington is a really nice place. There are a lot of hippies and punks there, and those are the kind of people we like!
During the evening Ryan from Defiance, Ohio had a birthday party. It was really nice, they had some vegan Orios that were amazing! We were kind of party poopers though, and played Guess Who? instead of mingle a little with Ryan's friends.
We didn't stay at the birthday party for that long because we also went to a concert near and saw a few bands. One of the bands was called Dark, Dark, Dark and were really good. We bought their cassette before we left home to relax.
The gig was at a bar and I wasn't old enough to go in there, since I'm only 20. Michael gave me loads of advice; act cocky and talk loudly in Icelandic, but when we got there it wasn't a problem at all.

Saturday the 22th.

We woke up early and drove to our friend Bill's in Peoria, Illinois.
We got there kind of early so we had time to visit Bill where he works. At a instrument store called Guitar World. We spent over an hour in there, just checking stuff out.

We also ate at a local Italian restaurant that was really good. Þórir burned his finger on a pizza there, and has blisters on his fingers now!
Bill had just moved in to a house with a bunch of his friends. It was a really really nice house. They had a jacuzy and everything!
The show that Bill had planed fell through, so instead My summer playd his basement. A bunch of his friends and co-workers were there, and some family as well. It was really nice.
We watched a lot of DVD while we were there. Mainly a show called Robot Chicken, which was really funny.

Easter Sunday - march the 23rd.

We had to get up really early because we had a 5 hour drive ahead of us, and My Summer as a Salvation Soldier was playing at a records store at 3. The store and the show that night were in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The record store was awesome. Really big and they had a little bit of everything there.
There weren't a lot of people at the show though, since it was Easter Sunday and all. There was also some football game going on near by.
The show was really fun though. There we met Andy and Annie who we would be staying with, and Greg the Mayor who hung out with us that day as well.

After the show at the record store we took our stuff to Andie and Anna's place and met all their pets. They had a dog and three cats, one of whom is the largest I have seen in my life!

They then took us sight seeing in Indianapolis which was a lot of fun. We rarely have the time to look properly at the places we travel to, so it was really nice to be able to check Indianapolis out.
After the sight seeing we went home and Andie cooked us a delicious meal and then we went to the venue where the show during the night was.

The bar was called Melody Inn and was really cool. The obviously had a lot of shows there and like having life music. My summer played second and after them played a local band called Sister who were awesome.

Right now we are just hanging out at Andy's and Annie's and later today we'll drive to Cincinnati, Ohio.

Tour in the US!

So here we are, on our very first tour in the US!
We landed in New York on Sunday and rented a car there and started our trip. We drove 930 kilometers yesterday, and 240 kilometers the day before. That sums um to 1170 kilometers in less than 24 hours!

We were a bit nervous about the immigration because Þórir still had some form in his passport since 2006, that should have been taken out when he left the country. But it was no problem. The guy simply said "this shouldn't be here" and took it out!
My immigration guy informed me that "boys don't make passes at girls who were glasses" so I'm seriously thinking of getting myself contact lenses.

Our first show was in Kalamazoo, Michigan at a venue called Rocket Star Café. It was a really cool place, organic and fair trade and a lot of activism going on there. We played first and two local bands (who were actually the same guys playing twice) after us. Finally Ghost Mice played. They were awesome as always, and we'll get to see them again twice before we part. Lucky us.
Playing with them is a guy called Eric Ayotte. He played a couple of songs and they sounded really good, so we traded CD's with him and listened to one of his Cd's in the car yesterday, and he is awesome. Most of the Plan-it-x is. Check it out!

Right now we're at one of the promoters place, where we stayed last night. This is a co-op place and there are a couple of people living here and a couple of cats who are awesome. They are a little pushy and demand attention, but that's all good. They make me miss our cat though.
The next place we're playing at is only an hour drive away, so we get to hang out here for a bit today.
